How do I take payments from a client?

Collect deposits, balances, and tips with Goldie easily via payment links, card, cash, or terminal.

Updated over a month ago

Goldie empowers your business by enabling you to take three types of payments: deposits, remaining balances, and tips. Once you’ve set up payments, it’s easy to take all three.

How to charge a deposit

To set up your Goldie account so that clients must pay a deposit when they book an appointment, check out this article on setting a deposit amount.

Previously, deposit payments were limited to sending a payment link. Now, you can:

  • Charge saved cards on file

  • Use tap-to-pay or card readers

  • Accept cash payments

  • Use gift cards (web)

📱 How to Take a Deposit

  • Start the deposit process from:

    • Appointment details -> Tap "Checkout."

  • Checkout screen with deposit

    • Under [Add discount] you’ll see:

      • Take deposit

      • Take full payment

    • If a deposit already exists, only the [Continue] button appears.

  • Take a deposit pop-up

You will receive a pop-up asking for the deposit amount. By default, the deposit value will be prefiled based on your settings.

  • Select payment method

    • Saved card

    • Tap to pay / card reader

    • Cash

    • Gift card (web only)

Remaining balances and Tips:

To take payment for any remaining balance (and potential tip) for an appointment, follow these steps in Goldie:

  1. Tap the appointment you want to collect payment for in your calendar or its action card.

  2. Tap “Checkout”.

    1. Note: the amount for which you’ll be requesting payment is shown and will equal the remaining balance for the appointment. It does not include any tips.

  3. Select the method you’d like to use to collect payment:

    1. Payment link

    2. Cash

    3. Tap to pay (available in certain countries)

    4. Card on file

    5. Terminal

Once you have sent a payment link to a customer, the “Take Payment” button will be replaced with a note confirming the “Message sent.” Once the customer has paid, you will see a transaction record under the “Service Total” on the Appointment details page.

If you are a user based in the US, UK, or CA and have the payment option enabled, you can make transactions with a maximum charge of $1000 per appointment. This feature is designed to ensure that you have the convenience and flexibility to make payments with ease while also keeping your transactions within a manageable limit. If your business requires a higher limit, contact [email protected].
