Stripe Identity Verification: What to Expect

Stripe requesting identity verification? Here are the documents you need and tips for getting approved.

Updated this week

When you set up Goldie Payments, our payment partner Stripe may require you to verify your identity. This is a standard financial compliance requirement and helps protect both you and your clients. Here's what to expect and how to complete the process smoothly.

When Is Verification Required?

Stripe may request identity verification at different stages:

During initial setup, when you first connect your Stripe account through Goldie

After you start processing payments, Stripe may request additional documents as your transaction volume grows

Periodically, for compliance, regulations may require updated documentation from time to time

If verification is required, you'll typically see a prompt in the Goldie app when you navigate to Menu → Payments, or you'll receive an email notification.

What Documents Are Needed?

Stripe typically requires one or more of the following:

Photo ID (one of the following):

• Government-issued passport

• Driver's license

• National identity card

Proof of Address (one of the following):

• Utility bill (within the last 3 months)

• Bank statement (within the last 3 months)

• Government-issued letter with your address

Tax Information (US accounts):

• Social Security Number (SSN) or Employer Identification Number (EIN)

• Your legal name must match the name associated with your tax ID

Tips for Successful Verification

Document uploads are frequently rejected for avoidable reasons. Follow these tips to get it right the first time:

Use high-quality photos. Make sure the entire document is visible in the frame. Avoid shadows, glare, or blurry images.

Show all four corners. The entire document — including edges — should be visible. Don't crop or cut off any part.

Name must match exactly. The name on your ID must match the name you entered when creating your Stripe account. Even small differences (middle name included/excluded, name abbreviations) can cause a rejection.

Document must be current. Expired IDs will be rejected. Proof of address documents must typically be dated within the last 3 months.

Use the original document. Screenshots, photocopies, or photos of photos are usually rejected. Take a fresh photo of the physical document.

How Long Does Verification Take?

Once you upload your documents:

Automated checks (photo ID matching) are usually completed within minutes to a few hours

Manual document reviews (proof of address, business documentation) can take 24–48 hours

Complex cases may take up to 5 business days

During the review period, your payouts may be paused. You can still accept payments from clients — the funds will be held and released once verification is complete.

My Documents Were Rejected

If your documents are rejected:

Check the rejection reason. Stripe usually provides a reason (blurry image, name mismatch, expired document). Address the specific issue before re-uploading.

Don't re-upload immediately. If you've been rejected multiple times, stop and contact us at [email protected]. We can check the specific rejection reason with Stripe and guide you on exactly what's needed.

Try a different document. If your driver's license keeps getting rejected, try your passport instead.

Stuck in a loop? If you've uploaded documents multiple times and keep getting rejected without a clear reason, please contact our support team. We can see the exact Stripe rejection details that aren't always visible to you, and help resolve the issue directly.
