Understanding the Balance Section in Your Payments Report

Learn how the Balance section of your Payments report separates money received from money refunded, and how the Net amount is calculated.

Plans: Pro and Pro Plus

Payments: Enabled

Your Payments report now shows a Balance section, which replaces the previous Breakdown by method section. Balance separates the money you received from the money you refunded, so every payment method shows a clear share of each and the amounts always add up.

To view this in Goldie, go to Menu (☰) → Reports → Payments.

For a wider look at the report types available to you and how to change the time period, see Can I see how much money I've made each day/week/month/year? and the Reports Overview.

What the Balance Section Shows

Balance is made up of three parts: Total received, Total refunded, and Net amount.

Total received

This is the sum of all payments you received in the selected period. Underneath it, each payment method appears on its own row with a percentage chip showing that method's share of Total received, alongside the amount received through it. Because these percentages are calculated from received amounts only, they always add up to 100%.

Total refunded

This is the sum of all refunds you issued in the selected period, shown as a negative amount — for example, -$175. Each method again appears on its own row with a percentage chip for its share of Total refunded and the refunded amount as a negative figure, such as Cash 80% / -$140 and Card 20% / -$35. These percentages also always add up to 100%.

Total refunded appears only when at least one refund was issued during the selected period. If you did not issue any refunds, your report shows Total received on its own.

Net amount

This is your Total received minus your Total refunded. It always matches the headline "to date" figure shown at the top of the report for the same period, so the two never disagree.

How the Rows Are Ordered and Rounded

Method rows are sorted from the highest amount to the lowest. When two methods hold the same amount, Card is shown first, followed by Cash.

Percentages are rounded to whole numbers, and the rounding is adjusted so that each group still totals exactly 100%.

The Balance section works the same way across every period tab — Day, Week, Month, Year, and Custom — and it also covers forecast values when Include forecast is turned on.

Why Percentages No Longer Go Negative

Previously, received and refunded money were combined into a single breakdown by method, which meant a method's percentage could turn negative when refunds outweighed payments for that method in the selected period.

Separating the two groups removes that possibility. Money received and money refunded each get their own transparent 100% split, and the Net amount reconciles them.

Breakdown by Staff

In the Breakdown by staff section, only staff members who generated at least 1% of revenue in the selected period are listed.
